Presenting a vintage Alps Battery Operated Old Timer Taxi with original box! Circa 1960′s. Orange tin litho with a lot of chrome plated trim. I tested with 2 size D batteries and the toy car powered right up. Stam and go action. Vibrating action. The radiator “overheats” and blows some smoke. The inside of the car lights up and one can see the passanger’s silhouettes. Great condition with some very minor scuffs. Marked Made in Japan with the Alps logo in the rear. The box shows some signs of wear. Found at an estate sale as part of a large toy collection. Measures 10″ inches long.

www.opamerica.com TPS Flash Space Patrol C.1966 Made in Japan In a great condition is this Space ship called Flash Space Control made by TPS Japan. This space ship is battery operated. The mystery action contains Flashing multicolor lights from the Eyes, Whirling rotor blade spins, bump and go action and engine makes popping sound. It is complete, no rust and 100% working. Measures a full 7 3/4″ inches long. I found an interesting write up about this toy in the book Vintage Toys: Robots and Space Toys: “Flash Space Patrol, by TPS, is both mysterious and entrancing. This example dates from the 1966 period, when TPS (Tokey Plaything Co. Ltd.) marketed it in the United States. The toy’s ‘mystery’ surrounds the fact that the eight inch Flash Space Patrol seems to be from an earlier time. Yet it’s quite clear this version was released in the mid 1960s; either TPS had marketed an iteration earlier in its corporate history, or this toy is merely a throwback to a happier, more creative time. Either way, the battery-op is a terrific plaything. Essentially an automated patrol vehicle, it features mystery action, a ‘whirling rotor blade,’ ‘flashing light from eyes,’ and engine noise. The sweptback styling and angular orientation of the toy’s superstructure adds a sense of speed and style not usually found in Japanese space vehicle design.
